Governor Morrisey Issues Statement on Kanawha County Mine Fatality ...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Governor Patrick Morrisey issued the following statement following the tragic death of Travis Price, 44, at the American Eagle Mine in Kanawha County Thursday evening.

Denise and I are heartbroken to learn of the tragic loss of Travis Price, a coal miner who lost his life at the American Eagle Mine in Kanawha County. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow miners as they mourn this terrible loss.

Travis dedicated 24 years of his life to an industry that has helped build West Virginia and power our nation. Every day, our coal miners take on difficult and dangerous work to provide for their families and communities. Their dedication and sacrifice deserve our deepest respect and gratitude.

The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training is investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. We ask all West Virginians to join Denise and me in praying for Travis’s loved ones and the entire mining community during this difficult time.
